Agra: The youth welfare department will develop sports infrastructure in 15 blocks of the district. This will be done using 520 crore rupees of funds approved under the Khelo India – national programme for development of sports. According to officials, a mini stadium will be developed in each development of the district to promote sporting talent. The district youth welfare department will receive funds after a period of three years. Pre-proposed mini stadium in Jagner and Akola block will be developed in the first phase.
According to senior sports officer, “Besides creating sports infrastructure in each block, mass participation of youth in annual sports competition will be ensured using funds sanctioned under the Khelo India scheme of the central government. This will help in identifying talent and nurturing them. We will focus on promoting rural talent in athletics, kabaddi, wresting, boxing and volleyball.”
