Mnp RD&PR minister promises 100 days job under MGNREGA

Imphal : Manipur rural development and panchayati raj (RD&PR) minister Th Biswajit Monday promised 100 days of jobs under the MGNREGA from current fiscal year.

Manipur is at the very bottom among India’s 29 states by providing only 29.38 days of jobs between April 2016 and March 2017, according to a recent performance report of the Union Rural Development Ministry.

Addressing National Panchayat Day observation here at Panchayat Bhawan, the RD&PR minister slammed the ousted Congress government for the poor performance of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in the state.

While the poor people were waiting for the job as guaranteed by the MGNREGA, Congress government had ignored it. “The previous Congress government had not taken up any steps to provide 100 days jobs,” he alleged.

The minister, who talked at length on various issues which previous government had left unaddressed, said that the problem faced by the rural people in getting birth certificate will be over in few days. “The issuance of birth certificates will soon be made through electronic modes,” he said.

Announcing that the state government was all set to launch “Housing for All Scheme” in the state soon, Biswajit said that the government was targeting construction of 10,000 houses under the to-be launched scheme.

The minister further delved on the need to remove poverty from the state and said that the new government will work to reach all the poverty elevation schemes directly to the targeted beneficiaries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already launched more than 126 schemes for the welfare of the people which are now being implemented through gram panchayats pradhans and zila parishads, he said while urging the pradhans and zila parishad members to be sincere in delivering the schemes to the people.

As part of the function, three Gram Panchayats of Keirao, Kyamgei and Kanglatombi were awarded under the Gram Uday Se Bharat Uday Abhiyan.
