New Delhi: A civil group has initiated a campaign and released a Gender Vulnerability Index with an aim for improving inclusion, access and opportunities for girls.
The campaign Plan for Every Child – Leave No Girl Behind featured discussions on issues related to marginalised girls and women, while finding out solutions to eliminate human trafficking and violence against them.
“The fact is that the issues surrounding women are inter-related. Also, there has to be a focus on solutions specific to each category of vulnerability,” Bhagyashri Dengle, Executive Director, Plan India said.
The debates which were held in Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Patna and Hyderabad brought together voices of over 200 youth from across the country.
The winners of the regional debate competitions will share their views and solutions during the three-day national conference.
“The aim was to engage with young people to understand their perspective as well as garner their suggestions and solution focused on inclusion, access and opportunity by addressing gender inequality,” Dengle said.
The Gender Vulnerability Index report released at the conference analysed the situation of girls and women on the basis of Protection, Poverty, Education and Health.
The report which features a multidimensional index with over 170 indicators will be useful in understanding the situation, as it ranks each state in every dimension of gender vulnerability.
