NSDC organising workshops to boost awareness about India Skills Competition

Thiruvananthpauram: The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is organising workshops in 20 states to drum up participation in the India Skills Competition, 2018. They will provide organisers, the local industry, academia, trainers and potential competitors a detailed understanding of the preparation for and conduct of skill competitions.

WORLDSKILLS COMPETITION

The winner of the India Skills Comptetition 2018 will get an opportunity to participate in the WorldSkills Competition to be held in Russia in 2019. The NSDC has been leading the country’s participation at WorldSkills Competitions since 2011, an official spokesman said. It is a biennial competition that provides youth a platform to display their skills with perfection.

Any skilled person born on or after January 1, 1997, may participate in any of the skills save aircraft maintenance, manufacturing team challenge and mechatronics, in which the candidate should have been born on or after January 1, 1994.

REGISTRATION PORTAL

Candidates may showcase talent in specific skills including brick laying, wall and floor tiling, electronics, welding, web designing, graphics designing, beauty therapy, cooking, or IT software solution for businesses, among others. A registration portal will be opened for participation in India Skills Competitions in partnership with state governments. The latter will conduct district and local competitions to select the best skilled person from their respective states.

The state champions will be called for regional competitions. The top scorer in the regional competitions will make it to the IndiaSkills Competitions.

‘BEST LAST YEAR’

Jayant Krishna, Executive Director & COO, NSDC, said last year India registered its best ever performance at the WorldSkills Competition in Abu Dhabi. “We would like to pick on the momentum and achieve new milestones at the next year’s WorldSkills Competition in Russia. This could be possible only with the untiring efforts and sustained excellence of our youth.”

Interested candidates can log in to the WorldSkills India website at https://worldskills.nsdcindia.org/want-to-participate.aspx and fill in their details and category of skills. Meanwhile, the NSDC has conducted multiple capacity building workshops in Kerala at local ITIs in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode.
